VERMONT SCENERY PROJECT

This is my on-going project to cover the whole State of Vermont. As most of you know now I had a major computer crash that fried almost everything inside and I lost all my work. Since recovering from that fatal day, I have decided to concentrate more fully on specific areas of the state adding a little by little as it comes nearer to completion.

As of now, there are two areas I've been concentrating on; the Rutland area and the Burlington area. Burlington is 99% completed with only minor details to the airport and surrounding area yet to be inserted. Rutland has all the basics needed to get around but I still have a lot of editing yet to go on this area including several lakes and mountains.

I have also begun work on the Vergennes-Middlebury area but progress is slow since I am of course concentrating my efforts on the previously two mentioned areas. Primarily work in this area has been largely to fill the gap that results from flying between the two areas.

As always while working on these projects I learned new tricks of the trade. This means a lot of patience on my part as I have to go back and implement to improve looks and performance. I see these projects as on-going projects so eventually they may get out of the beta stage and uploaded to other sites as full blown versions either as a package or separate downloads.

These are memory intensive files so a Pentium II is recommended, but there has been some success reported on Pentium 1 machines. They have not been converted to FS2K, although I toyed around with Burlington a little and as of yet I am not too sure if these versions will ever be. More than likely I will eventually develop separate files for FS2K. So for now I will only recommend that they only be tried on the FS98 platform.

As with earlier files the Northeast Scenery area of FS98 should be disabled. Unfortunately Microsoft wasn't very good at lining up real world coordinates in this area so everything had to be done from topographical maps. Its a slow tedious process but nevertheless accurate and rewarding in the end.

I have added a file called Wintex.zip which is an optional installation. It replaces certain main directory textures such as Broadw.r8 and Cropw.r8. These must be in the main texture directory of Flight Simulator 98 for them to take effect. The author of these files is unfortunately unknown to me or the contributor of the file.
